Brazil Trounce Portugal In Eight-Goal Thriller

Sousa ready to deal with QPR's great expectations

Paulo Sousa, the former Portugal international, yesterday became Queens Park Rangers' sixth manager in a little over a year when he was confirmed as their new first-team coach. Sousa follows John Gregory, Luigi De Canio and Iain Dowie, as well as caretaker managers Mick Harford and now Gareth Ainsworth, who have been dispensed with since Flavio Briatore became the chairman.

Sousa, 38, capped 51 times by his country and a Champions League-winner with Juventus in 1996 and Borussia Dortmund in 1997, has signed a two-and-a-half year contract at Loftus Road. Dowie was dismissed last month amid claims that Briatore, who is also the co-owner, wanted too much say in team selection. But Sousa, who worked under Luiz Felipe Scolari on the coaching staff of the Portuguese national team, is believed to have insisted on being in sole charge of team affairs.

Kaká meets Ronaldo in Brazil-Portugal friendly

Brazil's friendly against Portugal on Wednesday will bring together two of the best players in the sport -- Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka.

The match at Bezerrao stadium in Brasilia will be a homecoming of sorts for Brazil playmaker Kaka, who was born in a small, nearby town. But he tried to lower expectations that it will become a duel between him and Portugal winger Ronaldo.

"It isn't just a game between Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo, like a lot of people are saying," Kaka said. "I'm viewing this as an important friendly for Brazil."

Juve show trust in Tiago

Juventus have reportedly rejected Monaco's latest approach for midfielder Tiago Mendes after his recent upturn in form.

The Portuguese international had a miserable first campaign in the Bianconeri jersey and had looked set to leave in the summer.

But after turning down possible moves to sides including Everton, Tottenham and Newcastle, Tiago has finally shown some form of late and is starting to prove his worth in Turin.

QPR Appoint Paulo Sousa As Manager

Championship club QPR have named Portuguese legend Paulo Sousa as their new manager...

The former Portugal international, who was capped 51 times between 1991 and 2002, has agreed contract terms at Loftus Road, according to the Telegraph.

The 38-year-old, whose glittering playing career included stints at Benfica, Sporting Lisbon, Juventus, Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan, has limited coaching experience from his time with the Portuguese international set-up, but has worked under new west London neighbour and Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari.
