QPR Appoint Paulo Sousa As Manager

Championship club QPR have named Portuguese legend Paulo Sousa as their new manager...

The former Portugal international, who was capped 51 times between 1991 and 2002, has agreed contract terms at Loftus Road, according to the Telegraph.

The 38-year-old, whose glittering playing career included stints at Benfica, Sporting Lisbon, Juventus, Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan, has limited coaching experience from his time with the Portuguese international set-up, but has worked under new west London neighbour and Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari.

It is claimed in the Daily Mail that QPR co-owner Flavio Briatore had considered appointing himself as the club's next manager.

Gareth Ainsworth, the Hoops' recent caretaker manager following Iain Dowie's departure, should remain with the London-based outfit in some sort of coaching capacity.

Meanwhile, R's winger Lee Cook has praised Italian team-mate Damiano Tommasi, insisting that he is living up to expectations brought about by a certain computer game.

"Damiano Tommasi is just starting to play some games for us," stated Cook.

He continued: "I knew he was going to be a top player because I always signed him on Championship Manager and he always did a job for me!

"He's 34 now, has about 25 caps for Italy and was at Roma for ages, so his experience is second to none.

"I think he´ll be a great addition to the squad in terms of both his play and bringing the young lads along too."
